Job Description
The Construction Laborer supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial overhead doors and operators. This role involves working on-site to handle materials, operate tools safely, and assist with assembling and servicing overhead door systems while learning and applying mechanical and construction-related skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation of commercial overhead doors and operators, ensuring proper alignment, functionality, and safety.
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites in an organized and efficient manner.
- Help assemble and disassemble overhead door systems, including tracks, panels, springs, and operators.
- Perform routine maintenance and service work on existing doors and operators to ensure reliable operation.
- Support repair activities by identifying issues, replacing parts, and restoring overhead door systems to proper working condition.
- Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently, following all safety guidelines and best practices.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and basic electrical issues related to overhead doors and operators under guidance.
- Measure materials accurately using a tape measure to support precise installation and repair work.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to support project schedules and team productivity.
Essential Skills
- Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn new systems and processes.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Basic understanding of doors, service, electrical, troubleshooting, and installation tasks.
- Strong, reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Willingness to follow instructions and work as part of a field-based team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience in construction, carpentry, mechanical work, garage door installation, roofing, framing, or general labor preferred but not required.
- Interest in learning overhead door systems, operators, and related components.
- Ability to work safely on active job sites and follow established safety procedures.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Comfort with physical tasks such as lifting materials and working with tools for extended periods.

Work Environment

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mankato, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
