Job Title: Quality Technician

Job Description

The Quality Technician prepares and tests wire and cable samples within an established quality management system. This role focuses on accurate sample preparation, dimensional inspection, and data entry to support product quality and compliance with customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare wire and cable samples according to defined procedures and customer specifications.
  • Work within the quality management system to follow established processes and documentation requirements.
  • Learn and apply customer specifications to ensure samples meet required standards.
  • Perform all prep work involved in handling samples, including cutting wire and cable into specified sections.
  • Remove inner conductors from wire insulation and prepare samples for measurement and testing.
  • Measure insulation texture and gauge, then cut samples to precise lengths (such as 6 inches) for pull testing.
  • For larger wire or jackets, remove the outer jacket, cut material into appropriate segments, and prepare them as test samples.
  • Smooth the surface of cable jackets and use dies to cut samples for testing.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools to perform quality inspections.
  • Conduct visual inspections of samples to identify defects or nonconformities.
  • Accurately record measurements and test results in Excel and internal quality systems.
  • Navigate internal quality systems to enter data, review information, and maintain accurate records.
  • Send email correspondence related to quality results, issues, and documentation as needed.
  • Once trained, perform basic testing such as tensile and elongation tests on prepared samples.
  • Follow all production floor and lab procedures to maintain a safe and organized work area.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience in quality, electrical work, or a similar technical field.
  • Hands-on experience using micrometers (mics), calipers (cals), and gauges for measurement and inspection.
  • Quality control, quality assurance, and quality inspection experience.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and identify defects in materials and samples.
  • Comfort working with wire and cable products in a production or technical environment.
  • Computer proficiency, including entering data into Excel and navigating internal quality systems.
  • Ability to compose and send email correspondence related to quality activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement and documentation.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and customer specifications consistently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Trade school experience or technical training in a related field is welcome.
  • Experience working in a production environment or quality lab.
  • Familiarity with tensile and elongation testing is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of quality management systems and documentation practices.
  • Ability to learn new testing processes and tools over time.

Work Environment

You work primarily on a production floor with periodic tasks in a quality lab. The role involves handling wire and cable, using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges, and working at benches or stations designed for sample preparation and inspection. You use computers regularly to enter data into Excel, navigate internal quality systems, and send emails. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with no weekends and no overtime. The environment is process-driven and safety-focused, with standard production floor and lab practices guiding daily activities

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Granby, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
