Job Description

Make a difference in the lives of students by providing crucial academic, career, and social/emotional guidance at a thriving elementary school. This contract opportunity offers a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week and plays a vital role in supporting young learners as they develop both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise students on academic pathways, career options, and personal/social challenges
  • Evaluate individual and group needs, planning targeted interventions using a variety of assessment tools
  • Set and monitor short- and long-term goals for student achievement, supporting progress and providing specific feedback
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Provide mediation for student conflict in partnership with school administration
  • Prepare students for school transitions through collaborative work with teachers, staff, and administrators
  • Consult with parents and educators on both academic and personal matters, referring to specialized services as needed
  • Foster a supportive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for all students
  • Model professionalism, ethics, and integrity at all times
  • Participate in curriculum development and student activities as requested
  • Report concerns regarding child endangerment or abuse to administration promptly
  • Maintain active licensure and pursue ongoing professional development

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Completion of a state-approved Counselor Preparation Program
  • Eligibility or possession of the appropriate Virginia licensure and endorsements required by the School Board
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and mediation skills
  • Commitment to professional ethics and student advocacy
