A well-established real estate and property management organization is seeking an In-House Attorney to serve as the primary legal resource for landlord-tenant matters across a large residential portfolio. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine courtroom advocacy, legal counseling, compliance oversight, and business partnership in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.


The successful candidate will work closely with property management and leadership teams to provide practical legal guidance, mitigate risk, and support day-to-day operations while managing a significant volume of housing-related legal matters.


Responsibilities

  • Manage landlord-tenant legal matters, including evictions, lease enforcement actions, unlawful detainer proceedings, rent escrow cases, resident disputes, and related litigation.
  • Represent the organization in housing court, mediation proceedings, and administrative hearings.
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, affidavits, notices, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Advise property management professionals and company leadership on landlord-tenant issues, resident conflicts, lease compliance, and operational decisions.
  • Review and update lease templates, notices, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Provide guidance regarding Fair Housing laws and other regulatory requirements impacting residential property operations.
  • Partner with leadership to identify and mitigate legal risks, develop operational best practices, and support strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for escalated resident concerns and complex legal issues.
  • Manage caseloads efficiently across multiple jurisdictions while balancing the legal and business needs of the organization.
  • Assist with special projects and other legal initiatives as needed.


  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active Minnesota bar admission in good standing.
  • 2+ years of experience handling landlord-tenant matters, housing court proceedings, or related litigation.
  • Strong legal writing, courtroom advocacy, and communication skills, with the ability to provide practical, business-focused legal guidance.
