The 2nd Shift Assembler plays a key role in preparing industrial metal products and components for shipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You ensure your work area remains safe and productive, assemble materials according to detailed specifications, and support different production roles as needed to keep operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble material for shipment or components in accordance with written specifications and instructions on work orders.
  • Select material from specific heats or based on physical condition in accordance with instructions on orders.
  • Accurately count materials and record heat or test numbers, symbols, random lengths, and other required information on orders.
  • Prepare and package materials using banding and other hand tools to meet work order packaging specifications.
  • Use tape measures and other measurement tools to verify lengths, sizes, and specifications before shipment.
  • Maintain safety, quality, and productivity standards on every job assignment and follow all facility safety procedures.
  • Apply attention to detail and inspection accuracy to prevent shipment errors and ensure orders meet customer requirements.
  • Use assembly and packaging skills to stage, bundle, and prepare orders for outbound shipment.
  • Interpret and follow work orders and specifications to select the correct materials and ensure proper packaging and labeling.
  • Handle materials using forklifts and overhead cranes when qualified, to move, stage, and load products safely and efficiently.
  • Fill in for absent positions across different roles, excluding maintenance, as qualified to maintain workflow in a dynamic production environment.
  • Troubleshoot minor issues and adapt to changing priorities to keep production moving.
  • Complete all required documentation for shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking, including recording lot and heat numbers.
  • Perform visual inspections of materials to confirm physical condition and compliance with order requirements.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned, understanding that responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection and measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and inspection accuracy when counting materials, recording heat and test numbers, and verifying order specifications.
  • Proficiency in assembly and packaging of materials in accordance with work instructions and customer specifications.
  • Ability to understand and follow work orders, packaging specifications, and material selection requirements.
  • Proficiency with hand tools used for banding and packaging material.
  • Experience using tape measures and other measurement tools to verify lengths, sizes, and specifications.
  • Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and accurately recording material data.
  • Ability to perform basic problem-solving and adapt to different roles and tasks in a production environment.
  • Comfort working with metal products and basic mechanical aptitude for fabrication or processing concepts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Certified forklift operation experience in a production or warehouse environment (preferred).
  • Overhead crane or hoist experience using slings, chains, sheet lifters, hoists, or hooks to handle metal materials (preferred).
  • Experience with shipping, receiving, and order fulfillment, including picking, staging, and preparing orders for outbound shipment.
  • Experience with inventory tracking and documentation, such as recording lot numbers, heat numbers, and tracking materials through production.
  • Experience in the metals or steel industry, including steel service centers or fabrication shops (preferred).

Work Environment

This role is based in a large, standard manufacturing facility that is not climate controlled, so temperatures vary with the seasons. You work on a production floor with a team of around 40 people, using industrial metal handling equipment, hand tools for banding and packaging, and measurement tools such as tape measures and gauges. The schedule follows a four-day workweek on 2nd shift, running from 2:30 pm to 1:00 am, Monday through Thursday. The dress code requires steel toe boots, jeans, and a t-shirt suitable for a manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hilliard, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.19 - $24.19/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
