Schedule: 36 weeks/year during the academic year, with limited summer hours
Setting: School-Based Wellness Center
We are seeking an experienced Staff Registered Nurse / Med Nurse to provide comprehensive health and nursing care to students in a school-based wellness center. The nurse will assess and treat illnesses and injuries, administer medications, maintain accurate health records, and collaborate with nursing leadership, physicians, parents, faculty, and administration.
This position is primarily active during the school year when students are on campus, with limited hours during the summer.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Health & Nursing CareAssess and treat students for illnesses and injuries.
Respond to students requiring nursing care while on call.
Provide care and testing for communicable illnesses in accordance with school policies.
Follow infection control procedures, including proper use of PPE and sanitization.
Administer daily, controlled, and non-controlled medications.
Document student visits accurately using electronic health record systems.
Communicate with parents, faculty, administration, and healthcare providers regarding student health needs.
Maintain accurate controlled-substance inventories and conduct weekly medication counts.
Communicate with parents, pharmacies, and physicians regarding medication orders and compliance.
Monitor and promote medication adherence.
Keep Health Center staff informed of medication changes and updates.
Coordinate medication orders and preparations with parents and prescribing providers during the summer.
Ensure proper disposal of expired or discontinued medications.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Health Center environment.
Follow established nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
Attend nursing and staff meetings as required.
Maintain all required nursing licenses and certifications.
Work collaboratively with the nursing and medical leadership team to ensure appropriate student care.
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Previous experience in school nursing, pediatrics, community health, or a similar setting is a plus.
Strong clinical assessment and medication management skills.
Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
Full-time during the academic year, approximately 36 weeks per year.
Limited hours during the summer.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overnight on-call shifts.
When on call, the nurse must be available to report to the Health Center as needed.
Candidates must live within approximately 30 minutes driving distance of the school.
