Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with demonstrated fluency
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in school settings or similar environments
  • Ability to interpret classroom lessons, activities, and discussions for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Familiarity with educational terminology and environments
  • Certification (or eligibility) as an educational interpreter, EIPA, NIC, or equivalent preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
  • Dependable, adaptable, and committed to confidentiality and ethical interpreting standards

Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time ASL interpretation for students in classroom and school-wide settings
  • Facilitate clear communication between students, staff, and peers
  • Adapt interpreting style to accommodate diverse communication needs and age levels
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure effective inclusion and participation for deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Assist in preparation and adaptation of classroom materials when needed
  • Maintain professional records and documentation as required by school policies
