The Survey Drafter prepares high‑quality survey drawings and mapping using electronic field data, sketches, existing records, and written or verbal instructions. This role focuses on drafting a wide range of survey deliverables, supporting infrastructure and land development projects, and collaborating closely with project teams to deliver accurate, timely, and professional survey documents.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed survey drawings and maps from electronic field data, field sketches, existing records, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Draft a variety of survey deliverables, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, easement maps, right‑of‑way maps, as‑built surveys, and utility surveys.
  • Import, manage, and process survey field data within CAD platforms to ensure accurate representation of existing site conditions.
  • Develop and maintain base maps, surfaces, alignments, profiles, and cross‑sections to support engineering and surveying projects.
  • Revise drawings based on review comments and redlines, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project standards.
  • Maintain organized drawing files and documentation to support efficient project workflows and future reference.
  • Support projects involving municipal infrastructure, roadways, utilities, stormwater systems, and construction stakeout by providing precise survey drafting.
  • Coordinate closely with internal project teams to meet project schedules, quality expectations, and client needs.
  • Apply civil and land surveying principles when drafting pipe networks, open roads, and related infrastructure elements.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, family‑oriented work culture by communicating effectively and supporting team objectives.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for survey drafting and mapping.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D for developing surfaces, alignments, profiles, and cross‑sections.
  • At least 1 year of experience in topographic and boundary survey drafting.
  • Experience with topographic surveys and land survey drafting workflows.
  • Understanding of civil infrastructure drafting, including roadways, utilities, stormwater systems, and pipe networks.
  • Ability to import, manage, and process survey field data within CAD platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, consistent survey drawings.
  • Ability to interpret electronic field data, sketches, existing records, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with internal project teams.
  • Organizational skills to maintain drawing files and support multiple concurrent projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with MicroStation is a plus.
  • Experience with Open Roads is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ALTA/NSPS survey standards is beneficial.
  • Exposure to municipal, state, federal, utility, education, commercial, residential, energy, or transportation projects is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a close‑knit, family‑oriented team environment.
  • Interest in professional growth within a small, supportive company setting.
Work Environment

This is an onsite position based in the office five days a week, with typical hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The environment is family‑oriented, with a strong focus on employee success and growth in a team of around 40 people. The company has a long‑standing reputation for quality, service, and responsiveness across a variety of markets, including municipal, state, federal, utility, education, commercial, residential, energy, and transportation. Comfortable work attire is encouraged; team members can wear what they feel at ease in, as long as it remains professional. For any required travel, expenses such as hotels, air travel, meals, and mileage are covered. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rocky Hill, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
