CNC VMC Setup Technician (Precision Machining)
Job Description
Four 10-hour days. Three-day weekends. 2nd Shift at CCT Enterprises.
A Day in This RoleYou arrive for second shift, review the job traveler, and head straight to a vertical machining center. You mount fixtures and vises, load holders and probes, dial in work and fixture offsets, and set tool lengths. You run a first piece, verify specs, make a minor program tweak if needed, and then turn production loose—keeping the cell efficient while scrap and downtime stay low. Throughout the night, you monitor tool wear, adjust offsets, and troubleshoot any dimensional or process hiccups so customer requirements are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities- Independently complete setups on established CNC milling jobs and verify first-piece quality before release to production.
- Read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, job travelers, and work instructions.
- Install/adjust vises, fixtures, tooling, holders, probes, and workholding; set tool lengths, work and fixture offsets.
- Perform tool changes, offsets, and minor program edits; monitor machine performance and resolve tooling, dimensional, or process issues.
- Maintain production efficiency while minimizing scrap and downtime; communicate delays or concerns to supervision.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections; use precision measuring equipment.
- Verify conformance to blueprints and customer specifications; identify and segregate nonconforming material.
- Complete all required quality/production documentation and follow ISO/IATF procedures and inspection standards.
- Diagnose and correct issues tied to tooling, fixturing, or part quality.
- Recommend process improvements that raise efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Collaborate with operators, quality, supervisors, and fellow machinists.
- Assist in training less experienced operators and setup technicians.
- Support department-wide continuous improvement initiatives.
- Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow all safety and machining best practices.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, or equipment concerns immediately.
- Understand E‑stop procedures and machine safety requirements.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of CNC mill setup experience with the ability to run complete setups independently.
- Blueprint literacy and experience using precision measuring equipment.
- Solid knowledge of tooling, work/fixture offsets, and speeds & feeds.
- Ability to perform minor program edits; strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance; able to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with vertical machining centers; exposure to multi‑axis machining centers.
- Familiarity with Fanuc or Haas controls.
- Background in high‑volume production machining.
- Familiarity with JobBOSS or similar manufacturing software.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Pride in making precision parts to exacting specs while staying productive.

- Is: Independent CNC milling setups; troubleshooting machining/tooling/production issues; supporting operators; producing precision parts that meet customer specifications.
- Is Not: Entry‑level operator; programming‑only; button‑pushing production work.
