Job Description
ND Defense LLC is seeking a Temporary Field Service Representative (FSR) to support an active program across two locations. This role will be based onsite at our Madison Heights, MI facility through December 2026, then relocate to California from January through April 2027. A housing and meal per diem of $200/day is provided during travel periods. Candidates located outside of Michigan who are required to travel to the Madison Heights site prior to the California assignment are also eligible for per diem.
Strong performers may be considered for full-time employment at our Madison Heights, MI facility following the conclusion of the California project.
The Field Service Representative (FSR) serves as the primary on-site technical resource for ND Defense vehicle platforms and systems deployed at customer locations. This individual acts as the direct link between ND Defense engineering and the end user, providing hands-on maintenance support, troubleshooting, operator training, and real-time feedback to drive continuous product improvement. The FSR represents ND Defense at the customer site and is expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, technical competence, and responsiveness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide on-site technical support for ND Defense vehicle platforms and subsystems at customer installations, including scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, and corrective repair.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the customer and ND Defense engineering, operations, and program management teams.
- Conduct root cause analysis on system failures and field issues; document findings and recommend corrective actions through formal field service reports.
- Deliver operator and maintainer training to customer personnel on ND Defense platforms, systems, and associated tools.
- Support new vehicle fielding, integration events, and acceptance testing at customer sites.
- Maintain detailed and accurate service records, inspection logs, and parts usage reports in accordance with company and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate warranty repairs, parts procurement, and return/exchange of components with internal supply chain and logistics teams.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for engineering changes, product improvements, and technical publication updates based on field observations.
- Ensure all field service activities comply with applicable safety standards, ITAR/export control requirements, and customer site regulations.
- Support program reviews, readiness assessments, and customer meetings as the subject matter expert on fielded system performance.
- Travel to customer locations domestically and, when required, internationally for extended service assignments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (mechanical, electrical, automotive, or related) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in vehicle or heavy equipment maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, test equipment, and standard hand/power tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, professional field service reports.
- Valid driver's license; ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearances.
- U.S. Citizenship required (ITAR compliance).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior military experience with tactical or armored vehicle platforms (maintenance MOS or equivalent).
- Experience supporting defense or government customers in a field service or contractor role.
- Familiarity with automotive electrical systems, CAN bus architectures, and hybrid/electric drivetrains.
- ASE certifications or equivalent industry credentials.
- Experience with ERP or service management systems for work order tracking and parts management.
- Familiarity with ITAR/EAR export control requirements in a field environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments including shop floors, test tracks, and field conditions.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and climate conditions for extended periods.
- Willingness to work non-standard hours, weekends, and extended shifts as dictated by customer requirements and mission tempo.
- Travel up to 75%, including potential for extended TDY assignments at customer sites.
