Title: Assistant Controller

Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $140,000 - $150,000 / year

Office Schedule: 5x onsite

Location: Bethesda, MD

Our client, a rapidly growing financial services organization, is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to help build and scale its accounting function. This is a newly created position offering significant ownership, visibility with executive leadership, and the opportunity to establish processes, controls, and infrastructure that will support continued organizational growth.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on CPA who has experience building or rebuilding accounting operations, thrives in fast-paced environments, and enjoys creating scalable solutions across a multi-entity organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Active CPA designation required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience building, restructuring, or significantly enhancing an accounting function
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong multi-entity accounting experience.
  • Highly proficient with accounting systems and technology.
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and establish the accounting function from the ground up, creating scalable processes, policies, and controls.
  • Own day-to-day accounting operations, including:
    • Month-end close
    • Financial reporting
    • General ledger management
    • Account reconciliations
  • Lead multi-entity accounting and consolidation activities across the organization.
  • Design and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and reporting infrastructure.
  • Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems, technology, and automation initiatives.
  • Support organizational growth through process improvement and operational scalability.
  • Serve as a key accounting leader within a dynamic and expanding financial services environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in:
    • Financial Services
    • Asset Management
    • High-growth or startup environments
  • Experience with expense management and ERP platforms.
  • Exposure to ERP implementations or system conversions.
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar accounting systems.
