We're recruiting for an experienced Automation Engineer (R&D) to develop smarter, more connected industrial machinery for an established equipment manufacturer in Reading, PA.

This is a hands-on controls and automation role for an engineer who understands machines first and wants to apply AI, data and emerging technologies to improve equipment performance, reliability and serviceability.

What You'll Do

• Design, prototype, test and validate smart machine features and automation systems
• Develop machine diagnostics, condition monitoring and predictive-maintenance concepts
• Apply machine vision, data analytics and AI-enabled tools to industrial equipment
• Support PLC controls architecture, sensor selection, instrumentation and machine connectivity
• Commission, optimize and troubleshoot machinery at customer facilities
• Evaluate emerging automation and smart-manufacturing technologies for practical OEM applications

What We're Looking For

• 5-10+ years of controls, automation, mechatronics or industrial equipment experience
• Strong PLC background using Rockwell, Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms
• Hands-on industrial machinery commissioning and troubleshooting experience
• Strong electrical controls knowledge and structured problem-solving skills
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation or Mechatronics Engineering preferred
• Strong communication skills and willingness to travel up to 25-30%

Highly Attractive Experience

• OPC UA, MQTT, IIoT, historians, edge devices or machine connectivity
• Robotics, servo systems, motion control or OEM equipment development
