Family Law Paralegal
Job Description
Maenner Minnich & Wattenbarger is seeking a seasoned Paralegal. As we expand our practice from three to five attorneys this fall, we need a high-level professional who brings deep technical expertise but maintains a "growth mindset."
The ideal candidate is someone who has mastered the "how" of legal work but is excited by the "why"—someone who can refine our existing processes while staying flexible as we scale our team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. High-Level Case Management
- Manage the full life-cycle of files for our attorneys, ensuring all deadlines and court dates are tracked and met.
- Act as the primary point of contact for existing clients, providing substantive case updates with professional poise.
- Coordinate complex scheduling, including depositions, mediations, and trial dates.
2. Drafting & Legal Production
- Draft, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and legal correspondence.
- Conduct initial case assessments.
- E-file in both state and federal courts (familiarity with Odyssey, MCRO, and MNDES is highly preferred).
3. Process Optimization & Mentorship
- Collaborate with the attorneys to streamline workflows as the firm expands.
- Provide "best practices" guidance to our junior staff and intake coordinator.
- Assist in the transition as we onboard two additional attorneys in the fall.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience. We are looking for someone who knows the ropes but isn't stuck in the old way of doing things.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with practice management software (TimeSolv, OneDrive, etc.).
- The "Twin Cities" Edge: Deep familiarity with local court rules and filing procedures in the Metro area.
- Flexibility: A collaborative spirit. You should be comfortable pivoting between high-level drafting and helping a colleague troubleshoot a filing issue.
- Education: Paralegal certificate or degree from an ABA-approved program preferred.
