Assistant Retail Store Manager

Position Summary

The Assistant Retail Store Manager partners with the Retail Store Manager to oversee daily store operations, achieve sales goals, enhance the guest experience, and cultivate a strong, engaged retail team. This role provides hands-on leadership through associate coaching, effective merchandising execution, operational oversight, and consistent adherence to company policies and Montana Silversmiths brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Partner with the Retail Store Manager to recruit, onboard, train, and develop team members.
  • Lead by example through exceptional customer service and professional conduct.
  • Coach associates on selling techniques, product knowledge, and customer engagement.
  • Provide timely feedback, recognition, and performance coaching.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty, providing leadership, decision-making, and operational oversight during assigned shifts and in the absence of the Retail Store Manager.

Sales & Customer Experience

  • Drive store sales performance by delivering exceptional customer experiences, analyzing results, identifying opportunities, and coaching associates to achieve goals.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.

Store Operations & Merchandising

  • Assist with daily opening and closing operations, ensuring accurate cash handling and register accountability throughout each shift.
  • Follow company policies, operational standards, and procedures.
  • Support inventory accuracy through receiving, transfers, replenishment, and cycle counts.
  • Execute visual merchandising standards, promotional displays, and seasonal floor sets to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Identify inventory needs and communicate replenishment opportunities to leadership.
  • Promote loss prevention awareness and ensure compliance with cash handling, security, and operational procedures.

Brand & Community Engagement

  • Support approved store marketing initiatives by creating engaging customer-facing content that highlights Montana Silversmiths products, events, promotions, and in-store experiences while maintaining brand standards.
  • Collaborate with leadership and marketing to create content ideas and campaigns that support store goals and company initiatives.
  • Assist with promoting in-store events, product launches, new arrivals, and seasonal campaigns through approved channels while maintaining brand standards.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of retail leadership, supervisory, or keyholder experience in a sales-driven environment with demonstrated success.
  • Proven ability to motivate and develop retail sales teams.
  • Strong customer service and sales skills.
  • Experience with cash handling, POS systems, and store operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as business needs require.

Preferred

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business, Retail Management, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in specialty retail, jewelry, accessories, Western lifestyle, or premium branded retail.
  • Experience supporting retail marketing or social media initiatives.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The Assistant Retail Store Manager must be able to perform essential job functions in a fast-paced retail environment. This position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, move throughout the store, and assist with merchandising, inventory, and operational activities. The role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull merchandise and supplies; bend, reach, squat, and climb step stools or ladders as needed.

The position involves regular use of computers, point-of-sale systems, scanners, and other retail technology. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers, associates, and leadership are required.

Work is performed in a retail store environment with frequent customer interaction and may include exposure to varying noise levels, busy sales periods, and stockroom conditions. The position will require flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods. The Assistant Retail Store Manager is expected to follow all safety guidelines and maintain a safe, organized, and customer-focused work environment.
