Position: Human Resources Generalist
Pay Rate: $34.00/hourly
Location: Stockton, CA
Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 7:30 AM–5:30 PM, Friday | 7:30 AM–4:30 PM
(Every Other Friday Off)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to manage payroll processing while supporting a broad range of Human Resources functions. This position is responsible for processing payroll for both union and non-union employees, maintaining HR records, administering benefits, supporting employee relations, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and labor regulations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Duties and Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly payroll for hourly and salaried union and non-union employees.
- Review and verify employee timecards, attendance, overtime, shift differentials, and payroll adjustments.
- Interpret and administer payroll requirements in accordance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
- Process new hires, terminations, promotions, wage increases, bonuses, deductions, and final paychecks.
- Maintain payroll records while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and union payroll regulations.
- Process union dues, garnishments, tax withholdings, direct deposits, and employee benefit deductions.
- Prepare payroll reports, reconcile payroll discrepancies, and assist with internal and external audits.
- Coordinate year-end payroll processing, including W-2 preparation and payroll tax reporting.
Human Resources
- Support full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, and new hire orientation.
- Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records.
- Administer employee benefits, leave of absence programs, and annual open enrollment.
- Assist with employee relations for both union and non-union employees, including policy interpretation and issue resolution.
- Support labor relations by ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and partnering with management on union-related matters.
- Coordinate performance evaluations, employee training, and development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, OSHA, FMLA, ADA, and company policies.
- Manage workers' compensation claims, unemployment claims, and return-to-work programs.
- Prepare HR reports, maintain compliance documentation, and assist with HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of payroll and Human Resources experience.
- Experience processing payroll for both union and non-union workforces.
- Working knowledge of California labor laws, wage and hour regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems such as ADP, Paylocity, Paycom, UKG, Workday, or similar platforms.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality while building positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multi-state payroll experience.
- Experience interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
- Benefits administration and leave management experience.
- Workers' compensation and labor relations experience.
- Professional certifications such as PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) are preferred.
