Position Summary:
Our client is seeking an Overhead Crane Operator responsible for safely operating cranes to move raw materials, steel products, and heavy equipment. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, precision handling, and the ability to work in high-temperature, fast-paced environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate overhead cranes to transport steel coils, beams, billets, slabs, and plates
  • Inspect cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment before and after use
  • Follow strict safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and hazard awareness
  • Ensure loads are properly balanced, secured, and within rated capacity
  • Stack, stage, and organize steel products for processing or shipment
  • Respond quickly to operational changes in a fast-paced production setting
  • Report equipment issues, safety hazards, or near misses immediately


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proven experience operating overhead cranes in a steel or heavy industrial environment
  • Ability to read production schedules, load charts, and work orders
  • Excellent situational awareness and attention to detail
  • Ability to work safely around extreme heat, heavy loads, and moving equipment
  • Good communication skills for coordinating with team members


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate overhead cranes to lift, move, and position materials
  • Inspect crane equipment daily to ensure proper functioning and identify maintenance needs
  • Follow all safety regulations and company procedures to prevent accidents
  • Secure loads properly using slings, hooks, or other rigging equipment
  • Monitor load weights and ensure they do not exceed crane capacity
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns immediately


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Proven experience operating overhead cranes within a steel company
  • Strong understanding of safety standards and lifting procedures
  • Ability to read load charts and work orders
  • Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
  • Physical stamina and ability to work in industrial environments
