Crew Leader, Mowing
Job Description
Aspen Landscaping is looking for a dependable, hardworking individual to join our mowing crew and grow into a crew lead position.
Previous crew-lead experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person. We are looking for someone who shows up on time, learns quickly, takes responsibility for their work, and wants the opportunity to take on more responsibility as they gain experience.
What We’re Looking For
The right person will be:
- Punctual and dependable
- Hardworking and able to maintain a good pace throughout the day
- Coachable and willing to learn
- A fast learner
- Responsible with company vehicles, equipment, and customer property
- Respectful toward customers, coworkers, and management
- Easy to communicate and work with
- Able to take initiative instead of always waiting to be told what to do
- Detail-oriented and willing to correct something when it isn’t up to standard
- Comfortable helping keep the rest of the crew productive and on task
Crew Lead Responsibilities
As you are trained into the crew lead position, you will be responsible for helping run the mowing crew each day. Responsibilities include:
- Receiving and reviewing the day’s mowing schedule
- Making sure the crew understands the route and day’s expectations
- Making sure all necessary mowers, trimmers, blowers, fuel, and other equipment are loaded before leaving
- Fueling equipment and making sure the crew is prepared for the day
- Helping maintain an efficient pace throughout the route
- Monitoring the quality of the crew’s work
- Making sure every property meets Aspen Landscaping’s standards before leaving
- Taking responsibility for correcting work that does not meet our standards
- Communicating equipment problems, property issues, or customer concerns to the owner
- Helping keep company equipment, trucks, and trailers organized and treated responsibly
Our Mowing Standards
Before the crew leaves a property, the crew lead is responsible for making sure:
- Grass is mowed cleanly and evenly to the best of our ability
- All edges are properly trimmed
- Areas the mower cannot reach are properly trimmed
- Grass clippings are blown off sidewalks, driveways, patios, curbs, and other hard surfaces
- Grass blown into the street during mowing is cleaned up
- Whenever practical, clippings are blown back into the lawn rather than left on neighboring property, landscaping, sidewalks, or streets
- Gates and other areas disturbed while servicing the property are left as they were found
- The property receives a final check before the crew leaves
The goal is simple: we should be able to leave every property knowing we did the best job we reasonably could.
Customer Service & Professionalism
Crew members represent Aspen Landscaping while on a customer’s property.
We expect the crew lead to set the example by:
- Being friendly and respectful to customers
- Waving, saying hello, and acknowledging customers when appropriate
- Using professional language around customers
- No cursing or inappropriate conversations around customers
- Treating customers’ homes, lawns, vehicles, pets, and belongings with respect
- Wearing clean, presentable work clothing that is not excessively torn or worn
- Keeping the crew professional while at customer properties
Experience
Landscaping or commercial mowing experience is helpful, but attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are more important to us than years of experience.
We are willing to teach someone who works hard and wants to improve.
Experience with zero-turn or stand-on mowers, trimmers, blowers, trucks, and trailers is a plus.
A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are strongly preferred for advancement into the full crew lead position.
Opportunity to Grow
This position is intended for someone who wants more than a temporary mowing job.
The goal is to train the right person to eventually be trusted to run a mowing crew without the owner being present.
As your skills, responsibilities, and ability to lead the crew increase, there will be opportunities for increased responsibility and pay.
