Machinist / MIG Welder - CNC & Manual Mill
Job Description
Machinist / MIG Welder – CNC & Manual Mill
Location: Cartersville, GA
Job Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Machinist / MIG Welder for a hands-on manufacturing and fabrication position in Cartersville, GA. This is a versatile role combining vertical mill operation with MIG welding and general fabrication work.
The ideal candidate has experience operating Bridgeport-style mills, CNC bed mills, knee mills, vertical mills, or similar machining equipment and is comfortable setting up jobs, reading drawings, measuring finished parts, and producing quality work.
Experience with TRAK/ProtoTRAK-style machine controls is highly preferred but not required. An experienced manual machinist with strong milling fundamentals and the ability to learn new controls is encouraged to apply.
This is not a position for someone who wants to perform only one function. The successful candidate will work across machining, welding, and fabrication operations depending on production needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate vertical milling and bed mill equipment
- Operate CNC/manual-style milling equipment using established machine controls
- Set up workpieces, fixtures, tooling, and machine parameters for assigned jobs
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, dimensions, and work instructions
- Perform machining operations accurately and efficiently
- Use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to verify finished parts
- Make machine adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy
- Perform MIG welding on fabricated components
- Fit, tack, weld, grind, and finish fabricated parts as required
- Inspect machined components and welds for quality
- Troubleshoot basic machining and fabrication issues
- Assist with additional machine operation and fabrication work based on production needs
- Maintain equipment, tooling, and work areas in safe and organized condition
- Follow established safety and quality procedures

- TRAK or ProtoTRAK Operator
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a well-rounded, hands-on machinist who understands how to make parts rather than simply load and unload a machine.
You should be comfortable setting up a mill, reading a print, selecting appropriate tooling, checking your own work, and making adjustments when necessary.
You should also be willing to step away from the mill and perform MIG welding, fitting, grinding, and other fabrication work when needed.
Why Apply?
- Variety of machining, welding, and fabrication work
- Opportunity to use both manual machining fundamentals and CNC technology
- TRAK-specific experience is not required for an experienced machinist
- Stable, full-time manufacturing opportunity
- Opportunity to expand both machining and fabrication skills
- Hands-on environment where mechanical ability is valued
Work Environment
This position works in an industrial machine shop and fabrication environment. Employees regularly work around machining, welding, and metal fabrication equipment and are required to follow all applicable safety procedures and PPE requirements.
