Position Summary

The Licensed Counselor provides evidence-based individual and group therapy within a 3.1 clinically managed residential treatment program. Skilled in assessment, treatment planning, crisis intervention, and leading therapeutic groups for individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders in a structured, recovery-focused environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling services to adults in a clinically managed residential treatment program for substance use and co-occurring disorders
  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and developed individualized treatment plans in alignment with ASAM 3.1 criteria
  • Facilitate evidence-based therapeutic groups, including relapse prevention, coping skills, trauma-informed care, and life skills development
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment updates, and discharge planning in compliance with COMAR, CARF, and Medicaid standards
  • Collaborate with case managers, direct care staff, and external providers to ensure coordinated, person-centered care
  • Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments, ensuring resident safety and appropriate level-of-care decisions
  • Support residents in developing recovery goals, improving emotional regulation, and building sustainable coping strategies
  • Assist with discharge planning and aftercare coordination, including referrals to outpatient services, housing, and community resources
  • Ensure adherence to ethical standards, confidentiality (HIPAA), and professional boundaries in all aspects of care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and program development initiatives
  • Educate residents on substance use disorders, mental health, and recovery principles, promoting long-term success and accountability
  • Maintain compliance with state regulations and accreditation standards, contributing to overall program quality and outcomes

Qualifications

  • Active licensure in the state of Maryland (LCSW-C, LCPC, LCADC, LGADC, CAC-AD, CSC-AD, or equivalent)
  • Experience working with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders
  • Strong background in leading therapeutic groups (e.g., relapse prevention, CBT, DBT, life skills, trauma-informed care)
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria and 3.1 level of care
  • Familiarity with COMAR regulations, CARF standards, and Medicaid documentation requirements
  • Skilled in biopsychosocial assessments, treatment planning, and discharge planning
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention, risk assessment, and de-escalation
  • Strong documentation and case management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and ethical standards in behavioral health
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with EMR systems (e.g., Alleva or similar) preferred

Work Environment

This position operates within a 24-hour ASAM 3.1 residential treatment facility, providing structured support for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Staff work collaboratively with the rest of the clinical team to help residents build stability, accountability, and long-term recovery success.
