Quality Assurance Laboratory Manager

Location: Frisco, TX

Position Type: Full Time

Salary: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00

Position Summary

This individual is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards, conducting inter-laboratory comparisons, and managing equipment maintenance and calibrations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management & Certifications: Maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 certifications while managing relationships with independent test labs, notified bodies, and government representatives.
  • Reviews & Audits: Generate management review reports, coordinate internal audits, and ensure required follow-up actions are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Testing & Analysis: Perform mechanical, environmental, and optical testing according to international and military standards (e.g., ANSI, MIL-PRF, CSA).
  • Inter-Laboratory Comparisons: Plan and execute comparison studies to validate the accuracy of analytical results and benchmark testing methodologies.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Develop comprehensive schedules for equipment calibration and maintain the performance of specialized machinery, including lens cutting equipment.
  • Measurement Uncertainty: Develop and adjust uncertainty budgets based on equipment variability and updated technical specifications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the product development team to provide guidance on required test parameters and sample scheduling to meet launch windows.
  • Risk Management: Identify, document, and mitigate risks and opportunities as required by the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Quality Control: Conduct product inspections at various stages (inline, incoming), manage lot acceptance testing, and maintain nonconforming product processes.
  • Document Control: Monitor laboratory processes and maintain accurate records for procedures, process controls, and KPIs.
  • Team Development: Provide staff training on management systems and compliance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of inter-laboratory comparisons, equipment maintenance, and calibration processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and testing regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-departmental collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented approach with strong problem-solving abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a relevant scientific field (professional experience may be substituted for a degree).
  • 3+ years of proven experience in a laboratory or test setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
