Propane Delivery Driver - CDL Class B (Paid CDL Training Available)
Job Description
Owens Energy is hiring a full-time Propane Delivery Driver out of Show Low.
You'd be driving a bobtail and keeping the White Mountains warm - delivering to homes, ranches, businesses, and job sites across the area. Our drivers are the face of this company. Customers know them by name.
Experienced drivers: If you hold a Class B with hazmat and tanker, we want to talk. Bring your record and your endorsements and we'll put you to work.
No CDL? We'll pay to get you one. We run a training program that takes the right person from no license to a fully certified propane delivery driver - CDL, hazmat and tanker endorsements, DOT hazmat training, and PEP propane safety certification, all paid for by us. You don't need propane experience. You need a clean driving record, a good work ethic, and the discipline to follow safety procedures exactly. We'll teach you the rest.
Because that training is a real investment, trainees sign an agreement to stay with the company for a set period or repay a portion of the cost. We'll walk you through that agreement up front, before you commit to anything.
What you'll do
- Run a daily delivery route to residential, commercial, and agricultural customers
- Check and fill customer tanks safely and accurately
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Leak checks, and tank inspections at every stop
- Handle out-of-gas calls, including system leak checks and appliance relights
- Keep accurate delivery tickets and collect payment from COD customers
- Spot and report unsafe equipment or conditions - and know you have our full backing to refuse a fill that isn't safe
- Help out with cylinder filling, tank sets, and yard work during slower stretches
What you need
Every applicant:
- Clean driving record and insurable under our commercial auto policy
- Ability to keep or obtain a DOT medical card
- Ability to pass a DOT drug screen and participate in ongoing random testing
- Ability to keep or obtain a hazmat endorsement, which requires a TSA background check and fingerprinting
- Comfortable driving mountain grades, dirt roads, and in winter conditions
- Willing to work outdoors year-round and take part in a year-round rotating on-call schedule
- Ability to pull delivery hose and regularly lift up to 50 lbs
- High school diploma or equivalent
If you already have your CDL:
- Valid Class B CDL (Class A works too)
- Hazmat and Tanker endorsements, or willingness to get both within 30 days - we pay for it
If you're coming in as a trainee:
- Valid Arizona driver's license with at least 5 years of driving history
- Willingness to commit to our training agreement
- No CDL, no propane background, and no truck experience required
Nice to have
- Previous propane, fuel oil, or bulk fuel delivery experience
- Existing PEP or CETP propane training
- Basic propane service or appliance experience
- Experience driving in mountain, snow, and unpaved-road conditions
- Bilingual English/Spanish
What we offer
- $19 - 22 per hour starting pay depending on licenses, experience and endorsements
- Plenty of overtime during heating season
- Company-paid CDL training, hazmat, & tanker endorsements for qualified candidates
- Company-paid PEP propane safety training (formerly CETP)
- $75 per month benefit allowance you apply toward whichever coverage you choose
- Life and AD&D coverage
- Telemedicine - talk to a doctor by phone or video without driving into town or waiting for an appointment
- Emergency medical travel assistance
- Voluntary plans available: dental, vision, accident, critical illness, hospital confinement, additional term life, and short-term disability (short-term disability is employee-paid)
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Employee propane discount
- Home every night - no over-the-road, no time away from your family
- Stable, year-round work with a locally owned company that's been serving the White Mountains for over 27 years
Straight talk about this job: Winter is busy. When it's cold, people need propane, and you'll work long days pulling hose through snow. Summer is a lot lighter. On-call rotation runs year-round - people run out of gas in July too, and when it's your week, you go. If you want a steady local driving job where you're home every night and you don't mind earning it in January, come talk to us.
Owens Energy is an Equal Opportunity Employer. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing.
