Tax Manager CPA - Business Tax & High-Net-Worth Individuals
Job Description
Rosbrugh Accountancy Corporation (RAC) | San Jose, CA 95125 | In-Office | Full-Time
Compensation: $150,000 – $180,000 base, commensurate with experience
About RAC
Rosbrugh Accountancy Corporation is a CPA public accounting and tax practice based in San Jose, serving the complexity-rich Silicon Valley market. We're in the middle of an intentional repositioning: fewer clients, higher fees, and a boutique-premium service model built around deep expertise rather than volume. Our niche is business taxation (S-corps, partnerships, LLCs), multi-state compliance, and high-net-worth individual returns — clients with RSUs, stock options, and other equity compensation who want a CPA who understands the complexity and communicates proactively, not just at filing deadlines.
This is a firm in transition, not a static one. As RAC builds the next chapter of the firm around fewer, better clients and a modern, paperless operation, this Tax Manager role is one of our highest-priority hires — someone with real technical depth who can take meaningful ownership of a client portfolio and help raise the bar on service quality.
What You'll Do
· Own a portfolio of business and high-net-worth individual tax clients, with an emphasis on pass-through entities (S-corps, partnerships, LLCs) and equity compensation situations (RSUs, NQSOs, ISOs)
· Deliver proactive, year-round tax planning — not just reactive, deadline-driven compliance
· Review and manage the work of preparers and staff, ensuring technical accuracy across returns and financial statements
· Collaborate with firm leadership on service delivery and client strategy for your portfolio as RAC shifts to a tiered, premium service model
· Help lead the firm's transition to a fully paperless, cloud-based workflow (QuickBooks Online, cloud client portal, e-signature)
· Mentor and develop staff accountants
What We're Looking For
Required:
· Active CPA license (non-negotiable)
· 5+ years of public accounting tax experience, with strong technical depth in pass-through entity taxation (S-corps, partnerships, LLCs) — multi-state and high-net-worth individual experience a strong plus
· Prior experience managing or reviewing the work of other staff/preparers
You'll thrive here if you have:
· Digital fluency — comfortable navigating cloud storage, digital signatures, and PDFs without needing a paper trail
· AI comfort — you prompt and use AI tools well to draft communications, analyze data, and summarize research or notes
· High adaptability — you take fast software updates and shifting digital workflows in stride
· A continuous learning mindset — you seek out new tax developments and tech tools and teach yourself new platforms without hand-holding
· Data privacy awareness — you keep client files secure, use strong passwords, and take confidentiality seriously
· Process thinking — you naturally look for ways to turn manual steps into clean, automated workflows
· Problem-solving instincts — you troubleshoot basic software issues yourself before escalating
· Clear, concise communication — much of our internal collaboration happens over chat and email, so you write efficiently and directly
Why Join RAC
· A firm actively choosing quality over volume — fewer clients, deeper relationships, sophisticated work instead of routine compliance
· A modern, paperless, AI-forward office environment — not legacy paper-and-binder workflows (this is a work-in-progress)
· Competitive base salary of $150,000–$180,000, plus bonus potential
· SAR-SEP retirement plan — fully vested, discretionary employer contributions after three years with the firm
· A genuinely better work environment than Big 4 or large regional firms: smaller client roster, real relationships, and meaningful client-facing responsibility rather than routine, high-volume compliance work
· The opportunity to help build the next chapter of an established, respected local practice of 40+ years
