Job Title: Extrusion Machine Operator

Job Description

This role operates and monitors extrusion production equipment, including press, saw, and stretcher machinery, to produce high-quality metal parts in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. You set up machines, perform routine checks, troubleshoot minor issues, and ensure all products meet dimensional and visual quality standards while following work orders and documentation in EPICS.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor press, saw, stretcher, and related production machinery and equipment for extrusion operations.
  • Lay out, set up, and operate metalworking machines such as saws and hand tools to cut, shape, and form metal stock into parts and products.
  • Read and follow all specifications, notes, and instructions outlined in work orders and in EPICS.
  • Troubleshoot and perform corrective actions or minor repairs on saw and stretcher equipment as needed.
  • Complete required preventive maintenance checks on the saw daily, including lubrication levels, cutting blade sharpness, and other routine inspections.
  • Check products for correct shapes, dimensions, and other specifications using calipers, tape measures, and other measuring tools.
  • Follow work order specifications and packing instructions to ensure correct packaging and labeling of finished products.
  • Input production information into EPICS on an ongoing basis, including weight data, notes for die variances, low yield explanations, and suggested corrective actions.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma with some technical background and demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, notes, and basic drawings or blueprints.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with MS Windows.
  • Understanding of measurements, tolerances, basic geometry, and numeracy for accurate dimensional checks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with a team member.
  • Experience operating metalworking machinery such as saws, presses, or other production equipment.
  • Troubleshooting skills for minor mechanical and operational issues on production machinery.
  • Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, and other inspection instruments.
  • Comfort working in a heavy industrial, non-climate-controlled environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Extrusion experience in a manufacturing setting is an asset.
  • Knowledge of machinery operation and ability to read technical drawings is an advantage; training is available.
  • Familiarity with extrusion software such as EPICS is an asset.
  • Experience with machine shop environments, fabrication, bandsaw operation, punch press, and general machining is beneficial.
  • Experience in production and manufacturing settings with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong attention to detail and quality.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility operating on a first shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The site is non-climate-controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. You work around large extrusion machinery, saws, presses, and related equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and housekeeping.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $45760.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
