Looking for a meaningful opportunity to utilize your skills as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter in a dynamic school environment? This contract-based, on-site position offers the chance to make a real impact in the lives of students throughout Northern Virginia. You’ll join a flexible, as-needed pool of dedicated interpreters supporting students in K-12 settings. Schedules are currently part-time and on-call, with hours and school assignments varying according to district needs.
Desired Qualifications:
- Fluency and proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in school settings preferred
- VQAS Level III or 3.5 EIPA score anticipated—credentialing requirements will be finalized soon
- Ability to adapt communication styles appropriately for students of different age groups
- Comfortable working with variable assignments and caseloads
- Passion for fostering accessible, inclusive learning environments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, effective interpretation services for students in classrooms and throughout the school day
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians
- Adjust approach and vocabulary to suit the developmental and educational needs of each student
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Participate in intake, planning, and team meetings as needed
