Desired Qualifications:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, NIC, or equivalent credentials)
- Proficiency and fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working in educational settings, preferably K-12 schools
- Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
- Ability to adapt interpreting styles for various classroom subjects and student needs
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpretation for students, staff, and families during classroom instruction, group activities, meetings, and school events
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and school staff to understand lesson plans and support student participation
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusion in all areas of school life
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and school information at all times
- Support students in developing self-advocacy and communication skills as appropriate
- Participate in team meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) reviews, and ongoing professional development
