Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating Hardinge turning centers with Fanuc controls to machine highly precise components for military aircraft equipment. You will perform tool changes, offsets, program loading, and minor program edits while maintaining strict quality, safety, and documentation standards in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Hardinge turning centers to produce highly precise parts for military aircraft equipment.
  • Perform tool changes, set tools, and make machine offsets to ensure accurate and consistent machining.
  • Load CNC programs, establish work holding positions, and make minor program edits as needed.
  • Edit individual tool feed rates to establish appropriate Surface Feet per Minute (SFM) and related chip loads.
  • Read, interpret, and understand blueprint specifications and apply them to methods of manufacturing (MOM) per routing.
  • Use mills and lathes as needed to support machining operations and part production.
  • Identify and replace dull tooling proactively to prevent catastrophic tool failure and protect parts and equipment.
  • Perform basic hard gauging checks on a granite table using calipers and other measuring tools.
  • Set up machines accurately using precision measuring tools and ensure parts meet blueprint and inspection requirements.
  • Complete all required production and quality documentation, including Job Traveler, VISTA, and related paperwork.
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures to maintain a safe, organized, and clean work area.
  • Comply with all quality standards, inspection requirements, and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to support efficient workflow and continuous improvement on the production floor.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of experience setting up and operating turning centers.
  • 2+ years of experience editing and programming Fanuc controls.
  • 2+ years of experience reading blueprints and performing inspection tasks.
  • Hands-on experience operating CNC mills and lathes.
  • Ability to set up machines, including establishing work holding positions and tooling.
  • Proficiency with Fanuc-controlled CNC equipment, including loading programs and making minor edits.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply detailed blueprint specifications to manufacturing processes.
  • Skill in using precision measuring tools such as calipers and hard gauges on a granite table.
  • Capability to adjust feed rates and speeds to achieve correct SFM and chip loads.
  • Ability to recognize tooling wear and determine appropriate replacement timing.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety procedures.
  • Ability to complete required production and quality documentation accurately and on time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience machining components for aerospace or defense applications.
  • Familiarity with methods of manufacturing (MOM) and routing documentation.
  • Comfort working with tight tolerances in a controlled environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to machining, tooling, and dimensional issues.
  • Ability to work effectively on a second-shift schedule.
  • Willingness to support voluntary overtime when available.

Work Environment

This position is on second shift, working Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The manufacturing facility is brand new, very clean, and climate-controlled, including a dedicated one-degree room for tight-tolerance operations. The current machine footprint occupies about half of the production facility, with plans to acquire additional machines as client needs and staffing capacity grow. The production floor uses Hardinge turning centers with Fanuc controls and relies on precision measuring tools, granite tables, and hard gauging for inspection. The organization strives to avoid mandatory overtime but offers as much voluntary overtime as employees wish to take. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and quality procedures, with a professional dress code appropriate for a modern, high-precision manufacturing setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Mukwonago, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
