Embedded Software Engineer
Job Description
- Pay Rate: $37/hr
- Location: Mossville, IL – 100% Onsite
- Duration: 12 Months | 9/21/2026 – 9/20/2027
- Schedule: First Shift
Position Overview:
Caterpillar is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer 2 to support the development and validation of embedded control systems. This role focuses heavily on HIL/SIL validation, test automation, system-level verification, and troubleshooting of embedded software and hardware.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute HIL/SIL validation test plans for embedded control systems and ECUs.
- Configure, operate, and troubleshoot dSPACE/Vector-based test benches.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts, data collection, and reporting tools.
- Perform system-level verification, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
- Support ECU integration, diagnostics, fault injection, and validation reporting.
- Work with software developers, controls engineers, systems integration, and V&V teams.
- Support SIL/HIL verification activities for 2026 and 2027 product commitments.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience.
- HIL/SIL validation and testing experience.
- Hands-on experience with dSPACE and MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience with Python, C++, or gtest for test automation.
- Experience with CAN/J1939 and Vector CANoe/CANalyzer or similar tools.
- Experience with ECU integration, system-level verification, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot hardware/software test environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
