Job Description
Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a full-time American Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic, school-based setting. Two dedicated interpreters are needed to provide in-person support for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. You'll have the opportunity to work in a high school, middle school, or elementary environment—assignments will be matched based on your unique strengths and preferences.
Position overview:
- Contract, in-person role
- Full-time hours: approximately 36.25 hours per week
- Year-round placement during school schedule
Desired skills and experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within educational settings preferred
- Ability to effectively facilitate communication between students and staff using ASL
- Skilled in adapting interpreting strategies to meet age-appropriate needs of students
- Commitment to promoting inclusion and access in the classroom
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
- Must be punctual, dependable, and professional in a school environment
Responsibilities include:
- Interpret classroom instruction and school communications for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Support participation in academic, social, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to meet individual student needs
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for educational interpreting
- Assist during meetings, assemblies, or school events as required
