Job Title: Material Control Operator

Job Description

The Material Control Operator accurately maintains and reports inventory information for metal stock across multiple branch locations. In this role, you monitor, organize, and control the movement of raw materials to support production requirements while working closely with a diverse team in a fast-paced aerospace-focused warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate sit-down forklifts, order pickers, side-loader forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload metal raw materials manually and using forklifts, ensuring safe handling and proper placement.
  • Complete material receiving activities for shipments between locations and for materials received directly from the mill.
  • Coordinate the movement of material from stock to processing areas to meet production schedules and requirements.
  • Perform inventory control tasks, including cycle counting and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.
  • Enter accurate and timely data into the inventory management system to record material movements and inventory levels.
  • Record inventory and material information manually using a clipboard and other documentation tools when required.
  • Prepare, apply, and maintain inventory identification tags to ensure clear traceability and chain of custody.
  • Complete material consolidation tasks, including supermarket consolidation and organization of stock locations.
  • Identify material shortages, issues, or discrepancies and promptly communicate them to appropriate staff members.
  • Perform verification of scrap materials and ensure proper documentation and handling.
  • Assist the quality assurance team with activities related to credits and material quality concerns.
  • Use tape measures and calipers to inspect and measure materials to verify dimensions and specifications.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all written work, documentation, and data entry.
  • Perform basic equipment preventative maintenance and clean-up to keep work areas and machinery in good condition.
  • Demonstrate strong attendance, reliability, and consistent work history in day-to-day operations.
  • Work on your feet in a warehouse environment, handling paperwork and maintaining proper chain of custody for materials.
  • Participate in classroom training during the first week and on-the-job training with an experienced operator until fully proficient.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1.5 years of experience operating forklifts, including sit-down, order picker, and side-loader equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and perform basic math calculations.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry into an inventory management system.
  • Experience with basic data entry on a computer to track inventory, material counts, and locations.
  • Ability to use a tape measure and calipers for material inspection and measurement.
  • Certification to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, side-loaders, 4-directional lifts, or cherry pickers.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in written work and data entry.
  • Comfort working in a warehouse environment and operating material handling machinery.
  • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and handle physical tasks related to moving raw materials.
  • Good paperwork skills and ability to maintain proper chain of custody for materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Preferred: 3 years of material control or inventory experience.
  • Preferred: Previous experience safely operating a variety of material handling equipment, including forklifts and side-loaders.
  • Experience handling and moving raw metal materials in an industrial or aerospace-related environment.
  • Experience working with inventory control processes such as cycle counting and material consolidation.
  • Strong attendance record and work history demonstrating reliability and tenure.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with a large team on the production floor.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry materials and standards is a plus.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $24.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
