Job Description

As a Test Operator, you will operate and test lift equipment on an outdoor research and development test track. You will work with a variety of heavy machinery and new products, ensuring they perform safely and effectively under real-world conditions. This role requires comfort working at height, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions across multiple shifts. Responsibilities

  • Operate and test lift equipment on the outdoor R&D test track according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Drive, maneuver, and evaluate multiple types of heavy equipment, including forklifts, skid steers, bulldozers, excavators, and other material-handling machinery.
  • Load and work on towers up to 52 feet, performing test operations at height while maintaining strict safety standards.
  • Conduct basic mechanical checks on equipment, including checking oil levels, monitoring fluid levels, and performing simple tasks such as changing tires when needed.
  • Monitor equipment performance during testing and promptly report any issues, irregularities, or safety concerns to the appropriate team members.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use required personal protective equipment while working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
  • Work mandatory six-day weeks when work is available, including overtime as needed, while maintaining reliability and punctuality across assigned shifts.
  • Handle and move materials safely and efficiently in support of test operations and general construction-related activities on the track.
  • Collaborate with other operators and team members to coordinate equipment use and maintain an organized, low-stress work environment.
  • Adapt to operating new and different pieces of equipment as they are introduced, learning controls and procedures quickly and effectively.

Essential Skills

  • Proven ability to operate machinery such as forklifts, farm equipment, industrial equipment, construction equipment, or automotive equipment.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment, including forklifts, skid steers, bulldozers, excavators, or similar material-handling and construction machinery.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to perform basic checks such as verifying oil levels and changing tires.
  • Comfort working at height, including the ability to safely load and work on a tower at 52 feet.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, including very cold and very hot temperatures, rain, and snow.
  • Good depth perception, with no depth perception issues that cannot be corrected by wearing glasses.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Willingness to work mandatory six days per week when work is available and to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to remain active and engaged throughout the shift in a low-stress but physically involved work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working for landscape companies or on farms operating equipment is highly relevant.
  • Experience in construction, material handling, or other heavy equipment environments is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with operating multiple types of equipment and learning new machinery and product lines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining focus on safety and quality.
  • Strong awareness of surroundings and safety practices when operating equipment on an active test track.

Work Environment

This role is based entirely outdoors on a research and development test track dedicated to lift and heavy equipment testing. You will work in all types of weather, from very cold to very hot, and must be comfortable operating in conditions that may include rain or snow. Multiple shifts are available: first shift (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday with Saturday as an overtime shift; second shift (3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday with Saturday as an overtime shift; and third shift (11:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.) Sunday night through Friday morning with Friday night as an overtime shift. The environment is active but relatively low stress, focused on safe operation of heavy equipment and thorough testing of new products. Appropriate outdoor attire and protective gear are required to stay comfortable and safe in changing weather conditions.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
