We are currently seeking a Printed Wiring Board Designer to join the Electronics Design team in San Jose, CA. Electronics Design is comprised of various roles that contribute to the design and development of electrical units for the power, propulsion, and avionics subsystems supporting the bus (main body) of the satellites. In this role, you will work in a collaborative team of highly-skilled engineers to develop Printed Wiring Board (PWB) designs that are part of highly-reliable power subsystems for use in space applications. You will work on the design and layout of rigid and flex circuits, including accurately completing all documentation. You will interface directly with Electrical, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Engineers to develop preliminary parts placements eventually leading to full-up designs using Altium and/or Cadence Electrical Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) software. All documentation, including schematic, fab, and assembly drawings, will be generated using the ECAD tool suite.

Responsibilities:

  • With inputs from engineering, create schematic drawings and PWB layouts and design verification checks
  • Work with engineers for parts placements, and routing that satisfy design requirements and adhere to IPC and company standards
  • Work with the appropriate ECAD software physical and electrical design constraints for high voltage and current requirements
  • Create layer stack-ups that meet all design requirements and interface with PWB vendors as required
  • Interface with production personnel to ensure designs are highly manufacturable and meet company reliability requirements
  • Create full documentation packages and manage release process into companywide Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system
  • Manage and maintain the company’s component library through verification of existing components for accuracy and compliance with IPC/MIL standards
  • Create logic symbols and physical footprints of new electrical components and coordinate reviews with the engineering and manufacturing teams

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using Altium Designer
  • Experience with high-density multilayer board designs, with a mix of high power and digital circuitry
  • Well experienced with via designs, including buried and blind
  • Good understanding of PWB fabrication and assembly processes
  • Experience with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience with components data and library management and associated database management systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of related technical experience
  • Experience developing and designing for manufacturing of PWBs deployed in space environments
  • Knowledge of PCB failure modes and reliability in extreme environments
  • Experience developing IPC Class 2 and 3 PWBs
  • Experience using Cadence Concept HDL schematic and Allegro Layout design software
  • Good communication skills with the ability to interface and clearly communicate with many different technical disciplines
