We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our client's construction-focused finance team in Texas. This permanent role is suited for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who can oversee core close activities, maintain reliable project cost reporting, and deliver accurate financial insight to support business decisions. The position plays a key role in strengthening financial controls, monitoring cash and debt activity, and partnering with operational teams across active construction projects.

Responsibilities:

• Direct monthly close activities by preparing journal entries, recording accruals, and assembling financial statements and supporting schedules.

• Oversee the general ledger to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and align with construction accounting practices.

• Administer project cost accounting from initial job setup through ongoing budget monitoring, tracking labor, material, subcontract, and overhead expenses.

• Review cost performance against budgets, investigate variances, and work with project leaders to improve forecast accuracy.

• Prepare and maintain work-in-progress reporting and support appropriate revenue recognition for construction contracts.

• Track loan balances, financing activity, and interest-related entries, including amortization and scheduled payments.

• Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and subsidiary records while resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Monitor cash activity and contribute to short-term and long-range cash flow planning.

• Support audit preparation, maintain documentation, and help strengthen internal controls and finance processes.

• Collaborate with operations, procurement, and project management teams while assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, retention tracking, fixed assets, payroll allocations, and tax-related accounting tasks.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on exposure to construction accounting environments.
• Demonstrated knowledge of month-end close, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Experience with job costing, project-based financial tracking, and budget-to-actual analysis.
• Familiarity with debt schedules, interest calculations, cash reconciliation, and bank reconciliation processes.
• Proficiency with construction accounting or ERP platforms such as Viewpoint, Vista, Sage 300, Procore Financials, CMiC, or comparable systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with lookups, pivot tables, and financial analysis models.
• Strong analytical ability, organization, and communication skills in a deadline-driven setting.
