Job Description
The Applications Engineer supports the pre-order process by developing accurate proposals and budgets, entering and documenting orders, and launching projects to the execution team. This role owns the full quotation process, ensuring timely, precise, and well-documented quotations for customers and the sales organization while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact during the quotation, order entry, and specification-gathering phases of projects.
- Create detailed and timely quotations for customers and regional sales managers, using internal and external resources to support the proposal process.
- Develop accurate cost and price models for parts, complex machinery projects, and engineered systems.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and organized records for each assigned quotation.
- Follow up on quotations with customers as directed, ensuring alignment and progressing opportunities.
- Manage sales administration activities, including reviewing sales orders, terms, and change orders for contractual requirements and consistency with quotations.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in all data entries and maintain compliance with the data strategy to support future analysis of quotations and orders.
- Collaborate with the sales team to provide initial specifications and inputs at project kickoff meetings.
- Communicate directly with customers to clarify order requirements prior to hand-off to project managers.
- Initiate and formally kick off each assigned order with project management and project execution teams.
- Work closely with customers, the sales team, engineering, operations, and other stakeholders to define project scope, budgets, and objectives within the quotation.
- Ensure that the quoted scope, budget, and objectives are clearly understood by the project team at the kickoff meeting.
- Identify and communicate internal risks associated with each quotation from both process and financial perspectives.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit clear and concise activity and progress reports throughout the quotation, order, and specification-gathering phases.
- Apply lessons learned from recent orders and actively participate in after-action project reviews.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, product development efforts, product management activities, and marketing projects as assigned.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of experience working with customers, sales managers, and vendors in an industrial or industrial machinery company.
- 2+ years of experience generating technical proposals with budgets and pricing for machinery or engineered products.
- AS / BS Degree in a business, financial, or technical field.
- Ability to review contracts and orders to ensure they match the quotations provided.
- Solid technical skills with an understanding of, and/or hands-on experience in, a manufacturing or technical environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Direct experience with plastic extruders, sheet lines, blow molding machinery, and auxiliary plastic machinery is a plus.
- Experience using Infor Visual ERP systems and Smartviews is a plus.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications is a plus.
- Experience participating in continuous improvement, product development, product management, or marketing activities is beneficial.
Work Environment
The role operates in a dynamic, fast-paced industrial and manufacturing-focused environment where priorities and project requirements may change frequently. You will collaborate closely with customers, sales, engineering, operations, and project management teams, using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Word and, where applicable, ERP platforms like Infor Visual and Smartviews. Work involves a mix of office-based tasks, data entry, documentation, and technical review of machinery-related projects, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, cross-functional communication, and structured project hand-offs.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
