Day Porter

Position Summary

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Day Porter to support the daily cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep of a school campus.

This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable performing a variety of tasks throughout the day. The ideal candidate will have experience in janitorial work, general maintenance, handyman work, or a similar hands-on position.

The Day Porter will help keep the campus clean, safe, and ready for students and staff and will respond to cleaning and minor maintenance needs as they come up during the school day.

Responsibilities

• Clean and restock restrooms and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors as needed.
• Empty trash and remove waste throughout the campus.
• Clean windows, mirrors, and other surfaces.
• Respond to spills, restroom issues, and other cleaning needs during the school day.
• Assist with minor repairs and basic building maintenance.
• Help identify and report maintenance or safety issues.
• Break down boxes and assist with deliveries and supplies.
• Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events and activities.
• Maintain cleaning and maintenance supplies.
• Assist the Facilities team with general campus projects.
• Perform other facilities and custodial duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, maintenance, handyman, or similar work preferred.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning, building maintenance, and/or the safe use of hand tools is preferred.
• Must be able to speak and understand English sufficiently to communicate with school staff, supervisors, and team members and to understand work and safety instructions.
• Must be dependable and able to work independently.
• Must be comfortable working in an active school environment around students and staff.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb, and perform other physical tasks associated with cleaning and basic maintenance.
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, basic tools, and other equipment required for the position.

Background and Pre-hire Requirements

• Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all required background screening, including a California DOJ/FBI Live Scan fingerprint background check, as required for work at a school site.
• Tuberculosis (TB) screening/testing and clearance are required for individuals working in a school environment.
