Director of Music Ministries
Job Description
The Director of Music Ministries provides leadership, planning, and coordination for the music program of the church. This role supports and enhances worship by developing a spiritually enriching music ministry that engages the congregation and glorifies God through a variety of musical expressions.
Worship Leadership
• Plan and coordinate music for all worship services in collaboration with clergy
• Select hymns, anthems, and special music appropriate to the liturgical calendar
• Lead congregational singing and musical elements during services
• Coordinate music for special services (e.g., Christmas, Easter, funerals, weddings)
Music Program Development
• Develop and oversee all music ministries (choirs, ensembles, instrumental groups)
• Recruit, train, and retain volunteer musicians and vocalists
• Foster spiritual growth and musical excellence within the ministry
Choir & Rehearsal Direction
• Direct adult, youth, and/or children’s choirs (maybe add handbells? Not sure how you’d like this to be worded)
• Schedule and lead regular rehearsals
• Prepare music for weekly services and special events
Administrative Duties
• Maintain music library and equipment
• Manage music ministry budget (if assigned)
• Schedule musicians and coordinate volunteers
• Communicate regularly with staff, clergy, and participants
Qualifications
• Degree in music OR equivalent experience (church music preferred)
• Experience in choral conducting and worship planning
• Knowledge of sacred music literature and worship traditions
• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers
Work Schedule
• Weekly worship services
• Regular rehearsal times
• Additional hours for holidays, special services, and events

• Supports and upholds the values and beliefs of the congregation
Compensation
• Salary commensurate with experience
• Additional compensation for weddings, funerals, or special services (if applicable)
