Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Certification Technician to support certification, calibration, testing, and field service activities at pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and laboratory facilities throughout the Boston, MA region.


The successful candidate will independently certify Biosafety Cabinets and chemical fume hoods, conduct airflow and containment testing, perform laboratory instrument calibrations, troubleshoot equipment issues, and complete accurate service documentation. This is a long-term opportunity with the potential for extension or conversion to a permanent position.


Key Responsibilities:

Perform independent certification of Class I and Class II Biosafety Cabinets.

Test and certify chemical fume hoods, including face velocity, airflow uniformity, smoke visualization, and containment testing.

Conduct airflow velocity, inflow, downflow, airflow pattern, and containment testing.

Perform HEPA filter integrity and leak testing using aerosol generators, photometers, and related equipment.

Calibrate laboratory instrumentation measuring temperature, humidity, pressure, differential pressure, and airflow.

Operate anemometers, photometers, aerosol generators, manometers, particle counters, and airflow capture devices.

Perform functional testing, adjustments, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on Biosafety Cabinets, fume hoods, and associated airflow systems.

Identify and troubleshoot airflow, containment, HEPA filtration, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.

Interpret technical procedures, manufacturer manuals, drawings, specifications, tolerances, test points, and acceptance criteria.

Complete certification reports, calibration certificates, test records, and controlled service documentation accurately.

Perform all activities in compliance with GMP/GxP, Good Documentation Practices, customer procedures, and quality requirements.


Required Qualifications:

3–5 years of experience performing certification, calibration, or field service work in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, or another regulated environment.

Hands-on experience independently certifying Class I and Class II Biosafety Cabinets.

Experience testing and certifying chemical fume hoods.

Experience conducting HEPA filter integrity or leak testing.

Knowledge of applicable standards, including NSF/ANSI 49 and ASHRAE 110.

Strong understanding of airflow, containment, filtration, pressure, and environmental measurement principles.

Ability to independently troubleshoot technical and equipment-related issues.

Strong written documentation skills and attention to detail.

Ability to travel to customer facilities throughout the Cambridge, MA region.


Preferred Qualifications:

Technical training or a degree in metrology, instrumentation, electronics, HVAC, mechanical technology, electrical technology, or a related field.

Relevant military technical training or equivalent hands-on industry experience will also be considered.

Experience supporting GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or biotechnology facilities.
