Major food manufacturer is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Maintenance Technician with expertise in electrical or mechanical systems and experience in food manufacturing equipment to join our 1st shift team. As a 1st Shift Maintenance Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our equipment to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality. This is a union position offering a competitive hourly wage ranging from $25 to $30 per hour, depending on experience.


Job Duties

  • Work at the direction of plant management on equipment as directed.
  • Conduct routine inspections, diagnostics, and maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems of food manufacturing equipment.
  • Work with work orders and general reports of tasks being completed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components, circuits, and motors to minimize downtime and production delays.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to prevent equipment breakdowns and optimize machinery performance.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify and resolve technical issues, improving overall machinery efficiency.
  • Utilize technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams to facilitate repairs and maintenance procedures in compliance with USDA and OSHA regulations.
  • Assist in the installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs for reporting and future reference.
  • Backup support for other team member roles.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician, with experience working with food manufacturing machinery.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, circuits, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledge of USDA, FDA, and OSHA regulations and food safety standards is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
  • Good physical condition, able to lift heavy objects and work in different environments (e.g., cold rooms, hot areas).
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining quality standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.

Experience or basic knowledge with one or more of the following:

  • Reading electrical schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs.
  • High pressure boilers.
  • Air compressors.
  • Air dryers.
  • General mechanical repairs.
  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and able to legally work in Chicago.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background check.
