Senior Staff Accountant
Job Description
The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to perform advanced accounting functions across multiple entities and support accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting operations.
This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys analyzing financial information, solving complex accounting issues, improving processes, and serving as a trusted resource to colleagues throughout the organization.
What You'll Do:
· Perform complex accounting functions and provide advanced support for general ledger activities, financial reporting, and monthly and quarterly close processes.
· Prepare, review, and post complex journal entries and reconcile accounts across multiple entities.
· Analyze financial results, including comparisons of actual results to approved budgets.
· Monitor cash balances and liquidity across multiple bank accounts and identify funding needs, trends, and potential risks.
· Own and reconcile intercompany accounts and resolve discrepancies.
· Prepare and review accounting for investment-related transactions.
· Support the annual budgeting process and assist departments with financial analysis.
· Lead preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation and coordinate with external auditors.
· Identify and implement process improvements and internal control enhancements.
· Review financial information and accounting activities for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
What We Are Looking For:
• A degree in accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five years of financial accounting experience, preferably including experience in insurance or auditing.
• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and auditing standards, including GAAP/GASB as applicable.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to research, interpret, and clearly communicate complex financial information.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables, lookups, and other tools used to analyze and reconcile financial data.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to exercise professional judgment, discretion, and independent decision-making.
• Strong communications skills and the ability to build effective working relationships throughout the organization and with external partners.
