Production Operator
Job Description
Job Title: Production Operator Location: Mount Vernon, IN Type: Contract Compensation: $27.00 Work Model: Onsite Hours: 12 hour shifts (2-2-3) rotating between day shift and night shift every two weeks; 36 & 48 hours/week
Responsibilities
- Perform work required to manufacture shingle or rolled roofing products, along with related safety, housekeeping, shut down, cleanup, startup, and maintenance work
- Place cores in the finished product rolls
- Use a handheld carton closing device to close the packaging on products
- Take the material on the skid together to increase stability
- Inspect the packaging materials for damage prior to the material being bagged
- Maintain work area in neat and orderly condition per housekeeping
- Assist the department in clean-up on days when the line is down for maintenance
- Work safely
Requirements
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Positive attitude and a willingness to contribute to a continuous improvement environment is expected
- Must be able to rotate shifts and work 12 hours
- Must wear steel toe shoes, long sleeve shirt, and long pants
- No dangling jewelry
- Ability to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls
- Ability to raise and lower objects without mechanical aids
- Ability to extend hands and arms in any direction to reach, push or pull objects
- Ability to bend at the knees and at the waist
- Ability to talk or hear
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and to walk
- Ability to balance when assisting in the thread-up of the machine
- Ability to climb industrial ladders and use catwalks and stairs in the work area
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., frequently lift and/or move 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.
- Product & raw materials in excess of 50 lbs. must be moved with two employees
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to wear and use required safety equipment, including safety glasses, steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, head protection, and gloves
