Kids Connection Elementary is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and child-centered Mandarin Teacher to join our Extended Day and Summer Programs! This position works with elementary-aged students (Kindergarten–5th grade) and may be seasonal (summer only) or year-round, depending on candidate availability and program needs.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Mandarin educator who enjoys creating joyful, engaging learning experiences while sharing Chinese language and culture in a warm, community-focused environment.
Responsibilities include:- Plan and teach engaging, developmentally appropriate Mandarin language lessons for elementary-aged students.
- Foster students' listening, speaking, reading, and cultural understanding through interactive instruction and hands-on learning.
- Incorporate games, music, movement, art, stories, crafts, and cultural celebrations into daily lessons.
- Choreograph and rehearse simple dances or performances for school showcases and cultural events.
- Differentiate instruction to support students of varying ages, language abilities, and learning styles.
- Support homework and academic enrichment during the school year as scheduled.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment where students feel confident and excited to learn.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, outdoor play, transitions, and special events while maintaining active supervision at all times.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, coworkers, and school leadership.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, learning resources, and activity spaces.
- Communicate professionally regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom needs.
- Follow all health, safety, emergency, and California Community Care Licensing requirements.
- Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
- Minimum of two years of experience teaching Mandarin to children in a classroom or group setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with students, families, and coworkers.
- Energetic, positive, and child-centered teaching style.
- Putonghua Proficiency Test (PSC) Level 1-B (一级乙等) or higher preferred.
- Major or coursework in Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language (TCSOL/TCFL) or a related field strongly preferred.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Pediatric CPR certification (or willingness to obtain through Kids Connection).
- Successful Live Scan background clearance and licensing eligibility required.
- Year-round availability is strongly preferred.
School Year (September–Early June)
- Monday–Friday
- Approximately 12:00 PM–6:00 PM
- Approximately 30 hours per week (full-time)
Summer (Mid-June–August)
- Morning schedule (hours vary by program week)
Summer Mandarin Teachers may have the opportunity to continue working during the school year based on performance, availability, and program needs.
