Direct Counsel is seeking a talented Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Associate with 3–5 years of experience to join a sophisticated restructuring practice in New York or Boston.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with meaningful Chapter 11 and corporate restructuring experience who is ready to take on significant responsibility in complex, high-stakes bankruptcy and insolvency matters. The role offers hands-on experience, close collaboration with senior attorneys, and strong opportunities for accelerated professional growth.

Responsibilities
  • Represent debtors, creditors, and official committees of unsecured creditors in complex restructuring matters.
  • Handle matters involving:
    • Chapter 11 reorganizations
    • Out-of-court restructurings and workouts
    • Corporate insolvency and liquidations
    • Restructured credits and securitizations
    • Security enforcement actions
    • Insolvency-related litigation
  • Draft and argue motions and other substantive bankruptcy court filings.
  • Participate in bankruptcy court hearings and contested matters.
  • Conduct legal research and develop strategies for sophisticated restructuring matters.
  • Manage multiple significant engagements and competing deadlines.
  • Communicate directly with clients and collaborate with attorneys across multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of substantive bankruptcy and corporate restructuring experience.
  • Significant experience with Chapter 11 proceedings.
  • Experience representing debtors, creditors, and/or official committees of unsecured creditors.
  • Substantial familiarity with bankruptcy court practice, including:
    • Drafting motions
    • Arguing motions
    • Participating in hearings
    • Managing contested matters
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with outstanding academic credentials.
  • Active Bar admission in the jurisdiction of the candidate's primary office.
  • Comparable law firm experience required.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, advocacy, and client-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Judicial clerkship experience.
  • Experience with complex insolvency-related litigation.
  • Ability to independently manage significant portions of restructuring matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to practice.
Compensation
  • Base Salary: $250,000–$325,000, depending on experience.
  • Substantial annual bonus opportunities based on experience and performance.
