FLSA: Full-time, Non-Exempt (hourly) plus benefits

Salary: $27.52 to 30.52 per hour (depending on experience)

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

San Diego Blood Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization also operating as Southern California Blood Bank. We serve hospitals in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We are the primary blood provider to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and the safety net for hospitals in our region. Every year, more than 150,000 units of blood provided by San Diego Blood Bank are transfused into patients of all ages, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout Southern California. These patients are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, emergency surgery, trauma, childbirth complications and more.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Summary)

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development, the Development Coordinator will support the Financial Development team in launching and maintaining a comprehensive fundraising program.

The Development Coordinator serves as a collaborative team member in support of the execution of our mission - saving lives with quality blood services in partnership with the community and enhancing community health through research, education, and personalized wellness.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE (Key Responsibilities):

  • Assist with coordinating the Financial Development donor stewardship program, which includes the monthly digital communication and impact reports to current financial donors.
  • Maintain CRM/database records, process donations, and draft timely acknowledgement letters and tax receipts.
  • As event point person, the Development Coordinator will manage logistics for events, such as the Annual Gift of Life Benefit, and donor appreciation events (vendor coordination, RSVPs, and volunteer management).
  • Track donations, pledges, and prepare financial reports.
  • Support the Senior Director of Development's fundraising initiatives, as needed.
  • Understand and adhere to the policies, procedures, and standards developed as part of the San Diego Blood Bank Compliance Program.
  • On occasion, must work evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications)

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field/discipline from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Fundraising professional with 2+ years of development experience.

Experience:

  • Two or more years of progressively responsible experience supporting fundraising and development activities in a nonprofit organization or similar environment.
  • Experience maintaining donor management software (e.g., Raiser's Edge, DonorPerfect, eTapestry) and processing charitable contributions preferred.
  • Experience coordinating fundraising events, donor stewardship activities, and donor communications preferred.
  • Experience maintaining donor records and preparing reports using donor management software preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, project and event management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
