Job Description
Under general supervision, the Engineer supports process optimization, equipment troubleshooting, and operational improvements across manufacturing, operations, pilot plant, and capital project environments. Applies fundamental engineering principles to design and implement system modifications, experiments, and capital projects. Organizes, analyzes, and presents technical interpretations for operational issues or engineering projects of minor to moderate scope and complexity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide solutions to technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, principles, and procedures; seek guidance for unusual or complex problems.
- Perform assignments with clear objectives requiring investigation of a limited number of variables.
- Initiate and complete routine technical tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Serve as a technical expert for equipment, process, and system troubleshooting.
- Actively engage in daily operations when needed to meet schedules or resolve sophisticated issues.
- Routinely audit operational performance and regulatory compliance of equipment and systems.
- Supervise manufacturing processes for performance indicators; recommend solutions and provide troubleshooting mentorship.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Process Development, Utilities, Facilities, Quality Assurance, and Validation to develop requirements and recommendations for system or process modifications.
- Work under the supervision of project managers to complete design, engineering, and construction projects within schedule and budget constraints.
- Collaborate with consultants, architects, and engineering firms to develop standard design documents.
- Obtain and evaluate quotes for equipment modifications or installations.
- Generate basic project cost estimates and schedules.
- Support execution of manufacturing/quality systems such as deviations, equipment qualification, process validation, procedures, training, and new product introductions.
- Apply process, operational, scientific, and compliance knowledge to support manufacturing operations.
- Organize, analyze, and present interpretation of results for operational issues or engineering projects of moderate scope.
- Apply engineering principles to design and implement system modifications, experiments, and capital projects.
CORE COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotech processes.
- Familiarity with validation processes and documentation in regulated environments.
- Ability to interpret and apply GLPs, GMPs, and engineering science to production.
- Ability to operate specialized laboratory and manufacturing equipment.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
- Excellent verbal communication and technical report writing skills.

Requirements
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
One of the following is required:
- Master’s degree, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering + 2 years of Engineering experience.
Preferred Academic Background: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with equipment or process troubleshooting in regulated environments.
- Knowledge of GMP production operations and biotech/pharma manufacturing.
- Experience supporting deviations, equipment qualification, process validation, and new product introductions.
- Hands‑on experience in biotechnology purification operations.
- Knowledge of chromatography and UF/DF techniques.
- Ability to lead troubleshooting discussions across multifunctional teams.
- Experience supervising or mentoring operators during process troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting performance data and recommending improvements.
- Ability to work extended hours and adapt to changing operational priorities.
