Job Description
About the Role
Picture a typical day: you open AutoCAD to sketch out a new hydraulic circuit, verify component data sheets for the bill of materials, and then jump into SolidWorks to arrange pumps, valves, and cylinders so plumbing is straightforward and economical. You collaborate with a project engineer to align on scope, timing, and hours. By afternoon, you’re reviewing flow velocities, pressure drops, and seal types to select the right hoses, tubing, and fittings—then meeting a customer representative to fine-tune functionality. Throughout, you ensure designs meet industry standards and ergonomic/safety guidelines, and you partner with manufacturing and other teams to confirm feasibility and build-readiness.
What You’ll Do- Apply deep knowledge of fluid power systems—pumps, motors, proportional valves, cylinders, filtration, heat exchange, and more.
- Develop hydraulic circuits and systems using AutoCAD.
- Research and specify purchased components; document them accurately in the design BOM.
- Build mechanical solid models in SolidWorks to optimally position hydraulic components for efficient plumbing.
- Determine when manifolds improve cost, performance, or serviceability—and specify their use accordingly.
- Select conductors (tubing, pipe, hose, fittings) that meet pressure ratings and target flow, with acceptable pressure drop and appropriate seal types.
- Execute to the project plan: follow technical direction from the project engineer; finish designs within schedule and quoted hours.
- Design with practical plumbing methods in mind to reduce install time and cost.
- Engage with customers to review concepts and adjust functionality.
- Adhere to internal standards, industry engineering norms, and safety/ergonomic considerations.
- Collaborate across functions to validate manufacturability and overall feasibility.
- 5+ years in mechanical design for automation equipment, with emphasis on hydraulic systems and fluid power cooling.
- Advanced proficiency in 3D SolidWorks.
- Strong problem-solving ability and exceptional attention to detail.
