Position Summary

The Nursing Simulation and Learning Resources Technician supports nursing student learning by coordinating and running simulation activities, nursing skills laboratory operations, equipment and supply management, and educational resources. This position maintains a safe, organized, and effective learning environment; supports student skill development; and manages simulation and laboratory equipment, supplies, scheduling, and develops the purchase order request for the simulation and laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate simulation experiences, equipment, and related technologies to support student learning outcomes.
  • Function as a standardized patient to include memorizing and recalling scenario details to ensure each student receives the same experience.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all case materials and student performance
  • Be a champion for realism in clinical simulation.
  • Become and remain proficient in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of simulation and laboratory technology and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and functional simulation and clinical skills laboratory environment.
  • Set up and break down simulation activities and laboratory exercises in a timely manner.
  • Arrive in advance of scheduled activities to ensure equipment functionality and availability of required supplies.
  • Collaborate with the Simulation Coordinator and faculty for laboratory scheduling.
  • Provide orientation to simulation and laboratory resources, equipment, supplies, policies, and procedures for students and new faculty as needed.
  • Maintain inventories of simulation, laboratory, and educational supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate repairs, maintenance, updates, and replacements as needed.
  • Maintain records related to equipment acquisition, warranties, manuals, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Research products and technologies, solicit faculty input, and prepare recommendations for the purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and Simulation Coordinator on the annual budget recommendations related to simulation and the Nursing Education Resource Center including but not limited to laboratory equipment, supplies, and educational resources.
  • Assist in planning for the effective allocation and utilization of simulation and nursing skills laboratory resources.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives related to simulation and clinical learning environments.
  • Serve as a resource for students and faculty regarding simulation and laboratory equipment, supplies, policies, and procedures.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and professional learning environment.
  • Participate in Nursing Governance Committee meetings and other departmental, college, or university committees as requested.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education and professional development activities related to nursing education, simulation, and laboratory operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of program goals and student success.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Healthcare, Education, Technology) required.
  • Simulation certification, willingness to obtain certification, or evidence of continuing education in simulation preferred.
  • Experience with nursing simulation, skills laboratories, and healthcare education environments preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and related technology.
  • Ability to learn and utilize learning management systems, simulation platforms, and newly implemented software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external vendors.
  • Knowledge of simulation methodologies, clinical education technologies, and nursing skill laboratory operations.
