Sheet Metal Mechanic
Job Description
Our Sheet Metal Mechanics will be installing, modifying, repairing, and replacing HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems on commercial and industrial construction sites.
You will work from blueprints and specifications to fabricate, fit, and install duct systems, air distribution components, and related HVAC equipment, ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and performance standards.
Responsibilities
- Install sheet metal and HVAC ductwork, including hangers, grills, VAV boxes, and related air distribution components on commercial construction jobsites.
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints and specifications to plan and execute duct layout and equipment placement.
- Perform accurate layout tasks for duct runs, equipment locations, and transitions to ensure efficient and precise installation.
- Modify, repair, and replace existing HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems as required.
- Use appropriate hand and power tools to fabricate, fit, and install sheet metal and duct components safely and efficiently.
- Inspect completed work to verify proper fit, alignment, airflow, and compliance with project requirements.
- Collaborate with other trades and team members to coordinate work and maintain project schedules.
- Supervise and manage a small team when needed, providing direction and support to ensure quality workmanship.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures and site regulations.
- Arrive on time, communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors, and represent the company professionally on the jobsite.
Essential Skills
- 3 to 10 years of experience in the sheet metal trade.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints for HVAC and ductwork installations.
- Strong hands-on experience with sheet metal installation and duct installation in commercial or industrial settings.
- Demonstrated experience in HVAC installation and sheet metal fabrication.
- Ability to install ductwork and related equipment accurately and efficiently.
- Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools commonly used in sheet metal and HVAC work.
- Ability to supervise and manage a team effectively when required.
- Journeyman-level experience in the sheet metal or HVAC trade is preferred.
- Reliable transportation to and from various jobsites.
- Ability to work well with others and maintain strong people skills.
- Consistent punctuality and reliability.
- Positive, professional attitude on the jobsite.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $33.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
