Senior CNC Bridge Mill Operator
Job Description
This role calls for a highly skilled, setup-level bridge mill machinist who independently plans and executes complex machining work on large, close-tolerance components. You will take ownership of the entire process, from interpreting blueprints to producing finished parts, using large-format CNC equipment rather than simply tending machines. Prior experience with bridge mills or comparable large-format CNC machining is essential, along with a strong focus on precision, safety, and quality.
Responsibilities- Independently plan and perform complex CNC bridge mill setups, taking jobs from blueprint through to finished parts.
- Interpret detailed blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine machining strategies, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
- Safely position, fixture, and machine large or high-value workpieces, ensuring secure workholding and proper alignment.
- Select appropriate tooling and workholding solutions, and set speeds, feeds, and offsets to achieve tight tolerances and optimal surface finishes.
- Execute machining operations on bridge mills or comparable large-format CNC machines for tight-tolerance, low-volume, and complex custom components.
- Perform precision inspection of machined parts using GD&T principles, shop math, and appropriate measuring tools to verify dimensional accuracy.
- Edit CNC programs as needed on the machine and, where applicable, contribute to programming for complex jobs.
- Collaborate directly with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues, refine processes, and meet customer and internal specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining and dimensional problems, adjusting tooling, offsets, and setups to maintain quality and productivity.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow safe work practices at all times when handling large workpieces and operating machinery.
- Demonstrate dependable attendance, reliability, and ownership of product quality throughout the machining process.
- Hands-on experience operating CNC bridge mills or comparable large-format CNC machining centers.
- Proven ability to perform complex setups independently, from blueprint interpretation through to finished part production.
- Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to understand complex geometries and tight tolerances.
- Solid command of shop math for calculating dimensions, offsets, and machining parameters.
- Proficiency in GD&T and precision inspection techniques to verify conformance to specifications.
- Deep understanding of tooling selection, workholding methods, speeds, feeds, and offsets for large-format CNC machining.
- Demonstrated ability to safely position, fixture, and machine large or high-value workpieces.
- Track record of dependable attendance and adherence to safe work practices.
- Strong commitment to quality, with a sense of ownership over the accuracy and finish of machined components.
- Experience working with tight-tolerance, low-volume, or complex custom components.
- Capability to edit CNC programs at the machine and assist with programming for challenging parts.
- Background working directly with engineering and quality teams in a collaborative manufacturing environment.
