Job Description

The Maintenance Technician diagnoses and resolves basic electrical and mechanical issues on production machinery and equipment, performs repairs and preventative maintenance, and supports continuous, reliable operation in a fast-paced industrial environment. This role involves hands-on work with mechanical systems, basic welding, and assisting with electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, combustion, and motor control systems while ensuring equipment is maintained safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot basic electrical and mechanical problems with machinery and equipment.
  • Perform basic repairs to production machinery using general maintenance techniques, tools, and mechanical skills.
  • Complete basic preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, including lubricating, aligning, adjusting, and cleaning equipment.
  • Perform basic welding for the repair and fabrication of mechanical equipment and components.
  • Assist with work on electrical, hydraulic, PLC, combustion, and pneumatic systems as required.
  • Support minor PLC troubleshooting and modifications, including ladder logic adjustments, under appropriate guidance.
  • Read and interpret schematics and blueprints to understand equipment layouts, wiring, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Monitor the condition of equipment and make effective use of planned outages to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Collaborate with mechanics and machine operators to resolve equipment issues and minimize downtime.
  • Work safely in a hot, heavy, loud, and dirty industrial environment with metal extrusion processes.
  • Respond to equipment issues in a fast-paced production setting and prioritize tasks based on operational needs.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including working with 480V industrial systems.
  • Experience working with hydraulic systems in a production or industrial setting.
  • Experience working with pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting basic issues.
  • Ability to perform minor welding for repair and fabrication of mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and minor modifications, including ladder logic.
  • Understanding of motor control and industrial motor systems.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced industrial environment with heavy machinery.
  • Ability to perform basic preventative and predictive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, alignment, adjustment, and cleaning.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting combustion systems in an industrial setting is a plus.
  • Prior exposure to metal extrusion or similar heavy manufacturing processes is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with mechanics, operators, and other maintenance staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a multi-task role.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and frequent overtime to support production needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy industrial facility with metal extrusion processes, where the environment is hot, loud, and dirty, and work involves handling heavy materials and equipment. Maintenance Technicians train on day shift, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the first couple of months, then transition to a 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. schedule. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, with frequent overtime on Saturdays and Sundays as needed, resulting in approximately 50–60 hours per week. Work involves close interaction with industrial machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, PLCs, motor controls, and other production equipment in a fast-paced setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chesterfield, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.50 - $34.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
