Job Title: Civil Engineer (EIT/PE Track)Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for a motivated civil engineer to contribute to the full lifecycle of residential and commercial site development projects, from due diligence and preliminary design through final construction documents and project completion. You will support and lead the preparation of engineering documents, apply civil site design best practices, and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team while working toward or leveraging professional licensure. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical design work, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and delivering high-quality, compliant civil engineering solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of engineering and project documents, including due diligence reports, construction documents, drainage reports, specifications, and construction schedules and estimates.
  • Interpret and use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to evaluate soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and assess their impact on project planning and design.
  • Research and apply jurisdictional requirements, including zoning and subdivision regulations, to ensure that engineering designs meet all applicable standards and approvals.
  • Develop engineering drawings from concept through final construction documents, including site layout, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, and erosion control design using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Support zoning, ordinance, and permit assessments and prepare cost estimates to determine project feasibility based on collected and analyzed data.
  • Provide field observation services as needed to verify construction compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Apply sound civil engineering principles, techniques, and best practices to deliver efficient, constructible, and cost-effective designs.
  • Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments, contributing to a positive, high-performance project culture.
  • Understand and apply client standards, specifications, codes of practice, and risk tolerance to all project work.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and internal regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and support successful project delivery.
  • Participate in managing project teams, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to help ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Support the entitlement process, permitting activities, and coordination of construction activities through project completion.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in residential and/or commercial site design, entitlement processes, permitting, and coordinating construction activities through completion.
  • Strong civil engineering background with a focus on civil site design.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of industry, municipal, regulatory, and business operation standards relevant to civil engineering projects.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations and standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply zoning and subdivision regulations to engineering design.
  • Ability to manage or assist in managing project teams, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is a strong plus, or active pursuit of licensure within approximately one year.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee is highly desirable.
  • Experience preparing due diligence reports, construction documents, drainage reports, and specifications.
  • Experience conducting feasibility assessments, including zoning, ordinance, and permit reviews and cost estimating.
  • Experience providing field observation services for civil construction projects.
  • Experience working with residential and commercial developers, contractors, and permitting authorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply client-specific standards, specifications, and risk tolerance.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a culture focused on people, passion, and performance.
  • Interest in long-term professional growth, including expanding technical expertise and leadership responsibilities.
Work Environment

This position operates in a professional consulting environment that combines office-based design work with occasional field observation activities. You will primarily use AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil site design, along with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam for documentation, analysis, and collaboration. The work involves coordinating with project teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors, and requires careful adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry and company standards. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $78000.00 - $92000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
