Job Description
The Inventory Technician & Material Handler is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels, receiving and issuing materials, performing cycle counts, and ensuring the timely movement of materials throughout the facility. This role supports both production and warehouse operations by safely handling materials, operating material handling equipment, and maintaining inventory accuracy within ERP and warehouse management systems.
Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and packing slips to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Accurately store materials in designated warehouse locations to maintain organized and efficient inventory flow.
- Pick, stage, and deliver materials to production departments as needed to support continuous operations.
- Perform inventory transactions within ERP or warehouse management systems to keep records current and precise.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits to verify stock levels and identify variances.
- Investigate and reconcile inventory discrepancies to maintain high inventory accuracy and resolve issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload trucks while verifying shipment accuracy to ensure correct quantities and items are received or shipped.
- Prepare materials for outgoing shipments, including organizing, staging, and documentation as required.
- Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and storage of materials to protect product integrity and support traceability.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following all company safety policies and guidelines.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory control, material flow, and warehouse processes.
- Support other warehouse and production functions as assigned to meet operational needs.
Essential Skills
- Experience with inventory control and stocking in a warehouse or production environment.
- Proficiency in material handling, including moving, staging, and organizing materials.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely.
- Familiarity with ERP or warehouse management systems for performing inventory transactions.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting.
- Ability to verify materials against purchase orders and packing slips with strong attention to detail.
- Capability to conduct cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits.
- Skill in investigating and reconciling inventory discrepancies.
- Ability to prepare, label, package, and store materials according to company standards.
- Commitment to maintaining accurate inventory records and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a production or warehouse environment handling incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Comfort working with technology-based inventory systems such as ERP or WMS platforms.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain orderly storage locations and staging areas.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and contribute to a safe work environment.
- Willingness to support continuous improvement efforts related to inventory control and material flow.
Work Environment
This role is based in a warehouse and production facility environment that involves regular physical activity, including bending, lifting, pushing, and standing for extended periods. Team members must be able to lift or push up to 50 pounds as part of daily material handling tasks. Work conditions may include exposure to temperature extremes during cold and hot weather as materials move in and out of the building. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with the use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment as part of routine operations
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntley, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.
